About Us

Bill founded FWM in 2015 after stints at two major investment banks, Merrill Lynch & UBS. During his time at these so-called "wirehouses", he quickly learned that becoming an independent financial advisor would best serve both clients and advisors.  Jeremy joined Bill in 2019. He didn't take much convincing. They both recognized that all Financial Advisors should be fiduciaries for their clients.

Bill Murray
Founder, Attorney-at-Law

Bill grew up in Sandusky, Ohio, graduating from Sandusky High School in 2001. He attended Boston College and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, and then began law school at Suffolk University in Boston. After his first year, he studied abroad in Lund, Sweden, studying comparative corporations and international human rights. Upon his return, he transferred to Capital University Law School in Columbus, OH, where he finished his degree and subsequently passed the Ohio Bar Exam. After two years practicing law, he realized his passion was investing, and he joined Merrill Lynch's advisor training program in Columbus.

Bill left Merrill to return home to Sandusky where he joined a team at UBS. After two years, he finally realized his dream of going independent, and started Firelands Wealth Management in Huron. He is FWM's resident estate planner, helping clients manage their legacy.

When he's not serving his clients at FWM, Bill is serving his community on several boards of directors. Since 2019, he has been the president of the Huron Chamber of Commerce. In this role, he successfully oversaw the merger of the HCOC into the newly formed Greater Sandusky Partnership (GSP), on whose board he now also serves. He is also the Vice President of Kinship House, the area's only Supervised Visitation Facility. As of December 2024, he also serves on the board of Plum Brook Country Club.

Bill and his wife, Cate, live in Huron with their two daughters. He is an avid golfer and skier, and enjoys cooking and reading.
